BERLIN, GERMANY / RankWire.AI / – The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan held discussions with German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul in Berlin on Thursday. The meetings centered on enhancing economic and developmental collaboration between the two nations. Additionally, the discussions addressed regional and global issues, diplomatic strategies, peace initiatives, and international security concerns. This engagement coincided with President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s state visit to Germany from September 9 to 11.

UAE and Germany widen strategic partnership in Berlin
UAE-Germany talks in Berlin highlight expanding strategic and economic cooperation.

Both officials explored avenues to broaden the strategic alliance and deepen cooperation across multiple domains. Sheikh Abdullah highlighted the robustness and resilience of UAE-Germany relations, emphasizing ongoing growth. He also underscored their mutual dedication to building on previous successes and fostering sustainable economic development. Wadephul and Sheikh Abdullah exchanged perspectives on common interests and diplomatic approaches to crisis resolution.

The state visit introduced a new framework to the bilateral relationship. Germany’s Federal Government described it as the first state visit to Germany by a UAE president. During the visit, Sheikh Mohamed met with Chancellor Friedrich Merz, and together they announced a new Strategic Dialogue covering security, defense, trade, investment, energy, climate change, technology, digital transformation, transportation, environment, culture, and education.

Expansion of bilateral cooperation through strategic dialogue

Both nations agreed to support initiatives like the German-UAE Investment Council to bolster collaboration between public and private sectors. They welcomed the revival of the Joint Economic Committee and the outcomes of a bilateral business forum. According to the joint declaration, the visit led to the signing of 29 business agreements and memoranda valued at over 9.356 billion euros. Additionally, a UAE investment package worth 40 billion euros in Germany was announced.

Economic ties also extend into energy, cutting-edge technology, and digital infrastructure. The joint declaration outlined ongoing and upcoming projects involving LNG, renewable energy sources, hydrogen, and energy efficiency. It also referenced plans for advanced data centers with approximately one gigawatt of capacity. Both sides identified artificial intelligence and emerging technological fields as key components of their expanded collaboration.

Diplomacy and regional stability topics discussed by foreign ministers

During their Berlin talks, the foreign ministers examined regional and international developments. They emphasized the importance of intensified global efforts to promote lasting peace, stability, and security. Their discussions underscored the role of diplomacy in crisis management, echoing themes from the state visit. The German government had also prioritized Middle East peace and stability as key topics for the leaders’ meetings.

Lana Zaki Nusseibeh, UAE Minister of State, was present at the meeting between Sheikh Abdullah and Wadephul. Their conversations integrated foreign policy, economic cooperation, and development strategies within the framework of bilateral relations. The state visit further connected these discussions with formal mechanisms for investment, strategic dialogue, and sector-specific cooperation. The Berlin engagement represented the latest official milestone in the UAE-Germany Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, which has been in place since 2004.
