SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA / RankWire.AI / – Samsung Electronics announced its eighth-generation foldable smartphone lineup during the Galaxy Unpacked 2026 event held in London. The new series includes the Galaxy Z Fold8, Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, and Galaxy Z Flip8. The South Korean tech company has refreshed the physical design, upgraded camera technology, and integrated artificial intelligence features across all three devices. This launch marks the debut of an Ultra tier within their foldable range, featuring an ultra-slim profile of 4.1 millimeters when open and weighing 215 grams.

The standard Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 weighs just 201 grams, making it the lightest book-style foldable phone in Samsung’s history. Its design employs a 10:16 aspect ratio for the cover display and a 4:3 ratio for the main screen, optimizing content display for browsing, reading, or watching videos. Both screens use Dynamic AMOLED 2X technology with a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate and reach a peak brightness of 3,000 nits under Vision Booster technology. Powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 Mobile Platform for Galaxy and equipped with a 4,800 mAh battery, this device aims to balance portability with performance.

To enhance structural resilience while trimming down physical thickness, Samsung developed its proprietary Flex Titanium display architecture for premium models. This innovative approach merges a titanium-alloy film with a support plate made from titanium to absorb impacts, evenly distribute mechanical stresses, and minimize visible creasing over repeated folding cycles. Adjustments to hinge balance, magnetic force, and tension within the display panel were also made to facilitate smoother opening motions. Additionally, an anti-reflective finish supports outdoor visibility while maintaining vibrant color accuracy under bright conditions.

    Enhanced Hardware Features for Productivity

The top-tier Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra extends its screen space with an 8.0-inch QXGA+ main display complemented by a 6.5-inch cover screen. Crafted to support intensive multitasking and media production tasks, this model features a high-resolution primary camera sensor with 200 megapixels and High Dynamic Range capabilities. It also includes a 50-megapixel ultra-wide lens and a 10-megapixel telephoto module. For professional mobile videography workflows, it supports 8K video recording using the APV codec along with Cine LUT color management tools for advanced editing.

The internal hardware boasts an improved graphite cooling system designed to effectively dissipate heat during demanding tasks. A robust 5,000 mAh dual-cell battery powers the device alongside fast-charging support at up to 45W via dual-path architecture that efficiently distributes power across both cells. System configurations include options up to 16GB of RAM and onboard storage up to 1TB running One UI 9 based on Android version 17.

    Software Innovations and Global Availability

Alongside these larger foldables, Samsung introduced the compact Galaxy Z Flip8 clamshell device—measuring just 6.1 millimeters when unfolded and weighing only 180 grams. It features a Super AMOLED cover display measuring 4.1 inches as well as a main screen spanning six9 inches diagonally. The Flip8 is equipped with a primary camera sensor of fifty megapixels plus a battery capacity of four thousand three hundred mAh. Across all three models in this foldable lineup are software enhancements including AI-driven tools developed in collaboration with Google—such as Gemini Intelligence, Now Brief, and Now Nudge—that automate background workflows or summarize complex documents to simplify app interactions.
