EL ALAMEIN, EGYPT / RankWire.AI / – Al Dahra Agriculture Trading and Egypt’s General Authority for Supply Commodities have put into effect a five-year wheat supply deal valued at up to US$500 million. This agreement transitions a 2023 financing arrangement into a functioning import system for Egypt. Al Dahra will provide imported wheat to GASC financed by the Abu Dhabi Exports Office. The pact defines the purchasing process under this existing program.
The contract was signed at Egypt’s Cabinet of Ministers headquarters in El Alamein on Aug. 26, 2026. Present at the signing ceremony were Egypt’s Supply and Internal Trade Minister Sherif Farouk, who also presides over GASC, as well as Khadim Abdullah Al Darei, co-founder and managing director of Al Dahra. The release did not specify details regarding wheat quantities, shipment timelines, origins, or pricing methods for the purchases covered by the agreement.
This financing setup originated in August 2023 when ADEX and Egyptian authorities established a revolving wheat import program. The program was set with a US$100 million cap, renewable annually over five years with a possible total of US$500 million. The original arrangement involved Egypt’s ministries of international cooperation and finance alongside GASC. The 2026 agreement now provides the operational basis for GASC’s wheat imports from Al Dahra under this financing scheme.
Implementation of the 2023 financing scheme
ADEX is the export financing entity for Abu Dhabi Fund for Development, facilitating loans for purchases from Emirati exporters. In 2023, the organization stated that its Egypt facility would support wheat and other critical commodities supplied through Al Dahra. The financing initiative established a five-year framework for such transactions with GASC. The new agreement maintains that structure, while also outlining the operational details for Al Dahra’s imported wheat deliveries.
Since 2007, Al Dahra has been active in Egypt, operating agricultural sites in Toshka and East Oweinat. In 2023, the company reported cultivating approximately 28,000 hectares across the country and supplying over 180,000 tons of wheat to the Egyptian government in the previous three years. Recently, Al Dahra announced that its broader agricultural network now reaches more than 40 markets worldwide.
Al Dahra’s Egyptian operations date back to 2007
The agreement signed in August 2026 pertains to imported wheat, although Al Dahra also produces agricultural commodities within Egypt. In 2023, the company identified itself as Egypt’s leading private-sector producer of wheat and corn, with roughly 85% of its Egyptian output sold locally. The new deal involves imported wheat supplied to GASC via the ADEX program, rather than a separate US$500 million financing arrangement.
This five-year agreement enacts the financing framework announced three years prior, without establishing a new US$500 million facility. Neither Al Dahra nor GASC disclosed the total wheat volume covered or provided an annual shipment schedule, origin breakdown, or pricing details.
